Dr Yi Ran (Laurel) Fu

Dr. Laurel Fu, General Dentist, DMD

Growing up, Dr. Fu was a frequent visitor to her family dentist which fostered her interest and appreciation for the field of dentistry. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at the University of British Columbia, she made the full commitment to pursue dentistry as a career. She continued on to complete her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of British Columbia while serving local community members. Dr. Fu has travelled outside the lower mainland to work in smaller communities and fell in love with the sense of support and cohesiveness that other towns in British Columbia have to offer. Thus, she decided to move outside of the lower mainland to the Comox Valley to fulfill her career and lifestyle aspirations.

As a general dentist, Dr. Fu has a keen interest in all aspects of dentistry and wishes to carry out comprehensive care with special attention to patient management and comfort. As a perfectionist, she strives to complete every procedure to the highest of standards but having been in the patient chair more times than she anticipated, she understands the stresses that come with being at the dentist. Dr. Fu hopes to help change the negative connotations associated with dentistry and work collaboratively with patients to achieve their oral health goals.

Dr. Fu can be described as a mix of adventurous and calm. On one hand, she loves to travel the world and experience new cultures, but on the other hand, she enjoys the quiet nights in with her partner and senior cat. Being an animal lover, she has volunteered with local shelters and fostered many times before adopting her once obese and diabetic cat who closely resembles Garfield.

Dr Nahae Kim, DMD

Dr. Nahae Kim, General Dentist, DMD

Dr. Kim has had a passion for art from a young age; she has always loved doing intricate work with her hands, whether that be painting or playing piano or conducting laboratory experiments. While earning her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology at the

University of British Columbia (UBC), she devoted a year in research for the treatment of diabetes at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Although it was an enriching experience, Dr. Kim wanted to apply her skills in a way that would make a more immediate and meaningful impact on patients’ lives. Therefore, she decided to pursue a career in dentistry, as it was a healthcare profession that perfectly blends her unique talents in both art and science to help people directly.

Having completed her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at UBC, Dr. Kim is eager to now serve the community of Comox Valley. She is committed to providing quality dental care through careful communication and comprehensive treatment planning. Her top priority is to make every patient feel comfortable and cared for, with her gentle touch and calm demeanour.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Kim continues to enjoy various forms of art, including drawing, painting, cooking, and baking. She loves to share her creations with friends and family.
